One of the most exciting days of my internship was when OverDrive hosted a family event at their Blue Sky Campus to celebrate the anniversary of the release of Sora, their school reading app. I photographed the whole event, grabbing numerous candid pictures of the families enjoying the various activities. The highlight of the event was the reveal of the Lego Sora statue, in which I was able to capture the reactions of the children seen in the first picture.

One of my early photoshoots, I enlisted the help of my fellow interns to capture the idea of friends discussing the Libby app, one of OverDrive's products. I shot several images utilizing a phone, an Ipad, and even headphones to promote audiobooks. The main challenge in this shoot was ensuring I had enough light on my subjects while not blowing out the background. Much of this lighting was rectified in Lightroom.

This was one of my most challenging photoshoots. My team desired images that depicted people using their products at night, which meant carefully balancing my light sensitivity with the screens' brightness. It was tricky and my original pictures had a noticeable amount of noise, as seen in the bottom right picture. This is when I learned the benefits of using AI to help improve my work, as I used AI-powered De-Noise filter in Lightroom to massively improve the quality of the pictures and the detail within.

This photoshoot was done to promote the use of audiobooks that Libby offers, and demonstrating that people can listen to books anywhere. Since this was one of my last photoshoots, I had learned how to better correct elements on set rather than relying on editing afterwards. Therefore, the only edits I had to make were those concerning color temperature and lighting.

Test Shot

My other nighttime photoshoot, this one involved a bigger screen and more lighting, and therefore presented less challenges. I did multiple test shots both by myself and with my subjects to ensure that the technology worked smoothly and that my lighting would work for the scene. My testing process and self-modeling made it so that the actual shoot was efficient and got the necessary shots.

These pictures were part of a general series of close-up images of people utilizing Libby and Kanopy. I was able to self-model and direct my fellow interns, which was aided by the fact that I always sketched out my ideas for each photoshoot. This gave me ideas of the scenes I desired and ensured that sessions wouldn't overrun. I was proud of this particular series of pictures because it was my first solo shoot and I successfully handled every detail.
Reflection of my Position
My internship was a fantastic learning opportunity about working as a creative, and expanded my photo capturing and editing skills. I visualized and brought many of the desired concepts to life all while successfully adapting to corporate life and connecting with other employees. I received much positive feedback after my internship was over, and have been able to add a range of professional work to my skillset.
