How to Shit in the Woods

Bridge of Clay

The Road
For this project, I was given the challenge to redesign book covers using different typographic-based solutions, including entirely vector and entirely raster elements. I use key elements from my research on each book to conceptualize an appropriate cover, then used various methods such as photography and sketching to bring the ideas to life. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the typography was the dominant element while conveying ideas from the book. I thoroughly enjoyed this project, with "Night" and "Bridge of Clay" being my favorite outcomes.

Early sketches and concepts for the covers. Some covers like Bridge of Clay and The Road went through major iterations and even had a major switch of visual direction. I also listed out the major themes of each book to try and understand what should be included in my designs.

Bridge of Clay Iteration
I executed several concepts digitally, using a combination of photography of sketching materials and natural materials, as well as vector work in Illustrator. Some of these concepts were eventually scrapped completely, while others were modified to fit the feedback I received.
